Our Site Artwork
The same care and thought was given to the art and photography used on this site. The goal is to make the time you spend with SharingWellnessInfo a feast for the mind, body and spirit.
At the inception of the website a painting was created based on input from Gail and Lyndy. Sydney Morgan, an accomplished artist from Maryland, worked with Gail and Lyndy to develop meaningful symbols from many cultures and many time periods to include in the painting. This painting was the basis from which our web design artist, Buddy Sears, created the exquisite page designs used on the website, holding true to the symbolic nature of the items and colors of the painting. Sydney wrote the original painting symbolism information.

The painting has as its focus a portal that represents a passage – a passage, in this case, into the world of healing and wellbeing. Stepping through the portal requires courage to start the journey to wellness.
The turtle, long a symbol in several cultures for healing and longevity, takes on the role of Protector and Guide as you make your way through the waters that signify healing, gestation and cleansing.
The women on either side of the portal are the daughters of Asclepius, the Greek god of healing and son of Apollo. He was taught about medicine by the wise centaur, Cheiron. Meditrine (left side of portal) symbolizes Medicine, and Panacea (on the right) represents Healing.
In ancient Greece, medical schools, places of knowledge, were connected to temples called Asclepions; and people believed that they could be cured by sleeping in them, as well as by being treated by the Asclepiadae, the priest healers who were the caretakers of the sacred healing secrets. The human body is referred to as a “temple” in the Bible and in other religious writings. It is, indeed, given to us in sacred trust. It is our choice how we care for our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies. The image of the temple (on top of hill) is associated with the temples of Asclepions as well as the notion that our bodies are temples to be placed at the top of our priority lists.
The dolphins on either side of the female figures are arranged in a DNA-like configuration. Dolphins are considered to be a bridge between the physical and spirit worlds and are often called angels. DNA is, of course, the blueprint for physical life.
The violet circles with the green squares represent Heaven (circle) and Earth (square) while the gold shapes swirling inside the squares are forms of an energy symbol that is found in many societies of the ancient world including Greece, India, Early Americas, China, Israel, and Scandinavia. In some of these cultures, it was considered good luck; and, in most, symbolized creative energy, the source of life.
The 5 pointed stars on either side of SHARING WELLNESS above the portal are significant for the meanings of the five points. The upward point symbolizes the Spirit while the other points indicate the four elements – earth, air, fire, and water – that contribute to Life and are part of each of us. We have five senses, Christ had five wounds, the Muslims have five daily times of prayer.
The geometric proportions of the five-pointed star are those of the Golden Ratio because each segment of the star is in golden ratio to the next smaller segment. The Pythagorean brotherhood chose the star as their symbol. The Great Pyramid of Gizeh is based on the golden ratio relationship. The Golden Ratio is a proportion pleasing to the eye and is also used in music and biology.
The nautilus shell at the bottom of the painting is an example of the Golden Spiral, the logarithmic spiral embodying the concept of infinity, or limitless growth. In Feng Shui, the shell represents the feminine principal of receptivity.
The marks or tracks on the bottom left of the painting are Native American in origin and symbolize the “right to choose one’s path.”
The dominant colors in the painting – blue, green, purple – are symbolic of a Water (blue)-Wood (green)-Fire (purple) cycle, also known as a creative cycle in the Chinese Five Element acupuncture theory. Water is about gestation; Wood is birthing, creativity, and ideas; and Fire is manifestation.
It is our hope that this art with its universal and timeless symbols will encourage you, the reader, to take another step in your own healing journey. Further, we hope the knowledge and community support within SharingWellnessInfo.com empowers you to be an active proponent for your own wellbeing.
Some artistic changes have been made in the symbolism you see throughout the website. For example, because the word "panacea" has developed "cure-all" connotations, we have renamed her as Valetudinis, symbolizing good health and a sound condition of the body in Latin. Our motto, ancora imparo (Still I am learning), a quote attributed to Michaelangelo has been added to the steps.
